Northern Ireland Piping & Drumming School celebrated the achievements of their Lisburn students, with over one hundred and thirty guests at the annual Presentation of Certificates evening in Laurel Hill Community School on Wednesday 7th May 2014.
Deputy Mayor, Andrew Ewing, was the special guest for this evening of celebration. He congratulated students on their excellent results and paid tribute to NIPDS for their success. Over 56 certificates were presented to students, including 33 honours, 12 merits, 6 passes and 5 General Progress certificates awarded for Lisburn Campus. Two students achieved Grade 8 Theory and one student Grade 8 Practical Piping, which is a significant accomplishment for NIPDS and instrumental in the development of highly skilled musicians and future instructors in Traditional Music. Seventeen instructors have also completed the 4 Modules of the Instructors Diploma, which is relevant to all music instructors, whatever their chosen instrument. We will be running the Instructor’s Diploma course again in 2014-15.
Mark Armstrong (NIPDS Director) confirmed NIPDS Management Committee have secured Arts Council funding for 2014-15 and said he was immensely proud of the dedication and commitment from every student over both terms. He told guests that the External Examiners report, prepared by Emma Collins from Laurelhill Community College, commended NIPDS for the content and standards of marking in our examinations.
The presentation evening concluded with a generous light supper, with refreshments for our guests provided by the Noade family, before our students and instructors performed a varied musical repertoire featuring Gavin Baillie Drum Solo, Saxophone, and two Solo Pipers.
NIPDS wish to thank Major Sinclair Memorial Pipe Band under Pipe Major John Fittis for their entertaining concert performance and their ongoing educational support and encouragement of their band members to attend our Lisburn school.
NIPDS classes will restart in late September 2014 and full details will be made available on our website
